# Birthday automation

Birthday automation lets you send birthday-related messages when customer birthday data is available.

## Steps

1. Open Engage → Birthdays. The first time, choose **Set it up**.
2. Write the **Notification** customers see on their lock screen, the **Card header** and the **Text on card**.
3. Choose how long the offer is good for: 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month.
4. If you also want to send an email, tick **Also send an email**.
5. Choose **Save & activate**.
6. See who got their birthday wishes under **Who we celebrated** on the Birthdays page.

Birthday automation is part of the Business plan and the free trial. On Free and Pro you can set it up and see how it looks; the page shows whether turning it on needs the Business plan.

## Notes

Birthday wishes arrive on the customer's loyalty card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, with a notification. The email goes only to customers who agreed to receive marketing email from you.

Birthday automation can only work for customers whose birthday information is available. If a customer has no birthday data, they will not receive a birthday message.
